Smriti Mandhana’s world record in ODIs, male cricketers also left behind

Indian women’s cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana scored an unbeaten 80 off 64 balls in the second ODI of the series played against South Africa on Tuesday. On the basis of Mandhana’s brilliant batting, India defeated guest South Africa by 9 wickets to level 1-1 in the 5-match series. This is the 18th half century in Mandhana’s ODI. Left-handed Mandhana registered a major achievement with it. This is the 10th consecutive 50 plus score in Mandhana’s ODI while chasing, Mandhana has become the first cricketer to achieve this feat.

In the meantime, this Indian women’s opener broke the record of Suzi Bates of New Zealand, chasing the name of which has recorded a score of 50 plus 9 times. Suzy achieved this record between 2015 and 2017. Till now neither women nor men had done any such feat in cricket. Smriti’s applause is getting high on social media.

With the help of veteran Jhulan Goswami’s lethal bowling and a century partnership between Mandhana and Poonam Raut, the Indian women’s team made a great comeback in the series by defeating South Africa by 9 wickets with 128 balls remaining in the second ODI. Jhulan took four wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs. Apart from him, Rajeshwari Gaikwad played a key role in taking South African team for 157 runs in 41 overs with three wickets for 37 and Mansi Joshi taking two wickets for 23 runs.
