Sanjay Suri: OTT Has Brought About Certain Democratisation of Stardom

Actor feels the advent of OTT has changed the dynamics of star power in , since the platform has made content as important as the star. Suri’s latest outing is the web series Dev DD 2. “OTT has brought about a certain democratisation of stardom. A Bollywood film on the web may have that initial spike, but if it doesn’t hold, the dropout is quick and this spreads very fast. At the box office, you are catering to an audience that has paid for the ticket. Also, going for a film at the theatre is also like a getaway opportunity, but not on OTT. Pathan, Prithviraj, 83, Bell Bottom, RRR – Why Were Release Dates Announced in a Rushed Manner? Here’s What We Found Out! (Onhike Exclusive).

While watching something on OTT, you are in your pyjamas, and if a certain film or series doesn’t appeal to you, you will drop out even if it has the biggest star of the century in it,” says Sanjay. The actor adds that once the audience for a show goes away on OTT, they seldom return. “It is also dangerous, as the audience for OTT slips very fast. If you lose your audience, it is tough to get them back. So, if someone who is watching a show gets a message or starts online shopping, you have lost him. Mahesh Manjrekar: I Would Not Like OTT Censorship but There Are Some People Who Really Take Advantage.

The dropout rate is big on OTT. It happens with me, too. I take five to seven minutes to decide what I want to watch and then I don’t end up watching at all! Cinema has a first day, first show and so you want to catch the film first but this is not true on OTT,” he says. Sanjay is excited about his series Dev DD season two and is confident that the series will be loved. The first season came out sometime back and it did well, and the story very organically goes into season two. Dev DD imagines Sara Chandra Chattopadhyay’s classic Devdas with gender reversal — Devdas becomes Devika, Paro is Parth while Chandramukhi is Anurag, played by Sanjay Suri.

“The character’s name is Anurag and he had just started living again. Earlier, he was busy in his career and had shut down his emotional side. Then Devika comes as a breath of fresh air and the colour in his life comes out. But he realises that it would lead him to a conflicted state. This season begins with that conflict and he also realises that she is his daughter’s close friend. There is an age gap but they connect and vibe well. It’s like meeting the right person at the wrong time,” he says.

Melissa Rivers Feels the Red Carpet That Celebrities Walk for Events Have Lost Its Charm

Actress Melissa Rivers says that the red carpet that celebrities walk for events seem to have lost its charm. The 53-year-old said that this has been happening since some time now. “I think the red carpet has been on life support for quite a while, sadly,” Rivers told Page Six, according to a report in Golden Globes 2021: Gal Gadot, Emma Corrin, Cynthia Erivo and Others – Meet the Best Dressed Celebs From the Awards Night!

However, she says that celebrities must talk about the designer they are wearing when asked such questions at the red carpet. “Most of you are being paid to wear this, so show me in your contract where it says you don’t have to mention who it is. They deserve the credit. You’re a walking billboard!,” she said. Woody Allen’s Former Wife Mia Farrow Reveals She Encouraged Their Adopted Daughter to Bond with the Filmmaker Before Discovering Their Affair.

She adds the red carpets have also lost their edge because people blindly wear what their designers ask them to. “Everybody was being paid by designers to wear their clothes or their jewellery, and you lost a lot of personality. That’s not what it should be about! You want to see that people have actually picked their clothes,” she said, adding: “With virtual, you’re not gonna have any mishaps, any malfunctions — which sadly takes a lot of the fun out of it.”

Howard plays the role as Claire Dearing, the Jurassic World operations manager and also aunt to Zach (Nick Robinson) and Gray Mitchell (Ty Simpkins). While Jurassic World has her don some shades of grey before turning heroic, she had a more positive role in the sequel.

The Help, directed by the acclaimed Tate Taylor, is a period drama based on Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel of the same name. Daniel Craig Birthday Special: From Casino Royale to Knives Out, 7 Best Films of the James Bond Actor Ranked As per IMDB Rating (LatestLY Exclusive)

The British actor Daniel Craig is all set to turn 53 on March 2, 2021. The BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated actor is best known for playing James Bond since the 2006 film Casino Royale till the upcoming flick, No Time to Die, which most probably would be his last outing as the English spy. While Craig has managed to impress his critics enough to be considered as one of the best actors to play Bond, his better performances have come in more dramatic fare like Layer Cake, Some Voices, Knives Out etc. Craig had made his acting debut in the 1992 film The Power of One, where he had a minor role. No Time To Die Delayed Again! Daniel Craig Starrer To Release On October 8, 2021.

Married to actress Rachel Weisz, who also celebrates her birthday later this week, Craig is now one of the world’s most renowned stars, mostly because of the global fame of his Bond depiction. On the occasion of Craig’s birthday, let’s look at his seven best films based on IMDB rating.

Casino Royale (2006)

Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (2006)

IMDB Rating: 8.0

Daniel Craig’s first outing as British special agent 007 is considered as many as being his best Bond film, though a certain Skyfall would like to disagree (and Spectre would stay far away from the debate). The reboot does humanise the character, and his doomed romance with Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd is a highlight of the film.

Knives Out (2019)

Daniel Craig in Knives Out (2019)

IMDB Rating: 7.9

Rian Johnson’s clever whodunnit is rather a cleverer how-it-happened. The twists are great, the detailing even better and the cast is fantastic be it a smarmy Chris Evans, a vulnerable Ana De Armas or a snarky Jamie Lee Curtis. And there is Daniel Craig who keeps stealing the show as the brilliant detective Benoit Blanc, who certainly deserves a franchise of his own. Knives Out Movie Review: A Brilliant Murder Mystery Anchored by Daniel Craig’s Exemplary Performance.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Daniel Craig in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

IMDB Rating: 7.8

The mystery thriller directed by David Fincher is based on a novel and has also seen a Swedish movie adaptation. While Rooney Mara caught enough eyeballs with her gritty portrayal of Lisbeth Sanders, Craig underplays his role of the other protagonist,  journalist Mikael Blomkvist, to great effect.

Skyfall (2012)

Daniel Craig in Skyfall (2012)

IMDB Rating: 7.7

Between the disappointments of Quantum of Solace and SPECTRE, lies a really good James Bond film in this Sam Mendes’ directorial. Gorgeously shot, with some fine performances from Craig, Dame Judi Dench as Agent M and Javier Bardem as the antagonist Silva, Skyfall surely ranks among the best of Bond films.

Road to Perdition (2002)

Daniel Craig in Road to Perdition (2002)

IMDB Rating: 7.7

Based on a graphic comicbook, Sam Mendes’ Road to Perdition has one of best Tom Hanks’ cast-against-type roles of a gangster who goes on a run from his former bosses in trying to protect his son. Daniel Craig plays an antagonist, the arrogant son of the protagonist’s mob boss.

Munich (2005)

Daniel Craig in Munich (2005)

IMDB Rating: 7.5

This underrated masterpiece from Steven Spielberg is based on the Israel’s covert strike against Palestine Liberation Organization, after they were deemed responsible for Munich massacre at the 1972 Summer Olympics. While Eric Bana played the lead role of the Mossad agent Avner Kaufman, Daniel Craig leaves a mark as Steve, a member of Avner’s team.

Elizabeth (1998)

Daniel Craig in Elizabeth (1998)

IMDB Rating: 7.4

Shekhar Kapur’s first Hollywood outing is impressive for the acclaim it got, including a star-making performance by its lead actor, Cate Blanchett. Not many remember that Craig had a smaller role in the film, that of John Ballard, a Jesuit priest who is executed for his role in a plot to assassinate the Queen.

PS: As we looked for the best films of Craig based on the IMDB rating, we have ignored two results that came out. One is Star Wars: The Force Awakens (7.9) that had Craig in an uncredited role of a Stormtrooper. The other is a TV documentary Spielberg, based on the life of the director Steven Spielberg.
