Mira Nair to Adapt New York Times Article ‘The Jungle Prince of Delhi’ in a Series For Amazon

Director is set to adapt the 2020 Pulitzer Prize finalist New York Times story and podcast “The Jungle Prince of Delhi” as a drama series for Amazon. Written by Ellen Barry, the article reveals the truth about the history of royal family of Oudh, who lived in a ruined palace in Delhi and claimed to be the heirs to the fallen kingdom, according to Variety. “Exciting News: The Jungle Prince, my piece about one of Delhi’s great legends, a mysterious family who lived in a ruined palace in the forest, will be adapted by @MiraPagliNair, Amazon & Sister Pictures, the producers of Chernobyl,” Barry tweeted with a link to the story. Leonardo DiCaprio, Barry Jenkins on Board for Netflix’s Film Adaptation of Virunga Documentary

Nair, best known for her films “Salaam Bombay!”, “Monsoon Wedding”, “The Namesake” and “The Fundamentalist”, is attached as a director and executive producer on the project. She has recently adapted Vikram Seth’s novel “A Suitable Boy” for BBC. “Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Ellen Barry’s beautifully written tale of the Oudh family deeper truths rooted in the violence and trauma of the partition of India…” Roper said. “Since its publication, The Times has been searching for the right partners to expand the story’s reach and we are thrilled to work with the incomparable Mira Nair, and to be producing ‘The Jungle Prince’ series with Amazon Studios alongside Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment, SISTER and Fourth and Twenty Eight Films,” she added.

American Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal loves learning from his co actors and one such actor who left a lasting impression on him was late Heath Ledger. Gangubai Kathiawadi: Alia Bhatt’s Film Gets Into Trouble As Kamathipura Residents Protest for Hurting Their Sentiments

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and trouble never seem to part ways. As his movies always land in a mess before it’s release. And the latest we hear is that his upcoming flick, Gangubai Kathiawadi has been embroiled in a controversy. According to reports, Alia Bhatt’s character as the queen of Kamathipura has not gone down well with the residents and so they’ve chosen to protest against the film. As per the official statement, the residents have claimed that the filmmaker has tarnished the 200 years old history of the people residing in Kamathipura. Gangubai Kathiawadi: Devgn to Join Alia Bhatt’s Team for the Shoot From February 27.



“The New Alia Bhatt Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a blatant misrepresentation and an attempt to malign the 200 years of the actual history of Kamathipura. It is defamatory, shameful and has hurt the sentiments of the residents of Kamathipura,” the statement read.

They mentioned how the people of Kamathipura will not suffer. “Once again a few people are looking to monetize from the suffering of others and this the residents of Kamathipura are choosing to not suffer in silence. Hundreds of residents of Kamathipura (Youth, women, children, etc) will be gathering at the centre of Kamathipura to protest against the release of Gangubai Kathiawadi. They have also previously met with various decision-makers and registered their complaint on the same,” the statement ended.






The trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi was very well received as moviegoers loved how Alia could be seen the act as the ruler of Kamathipura. FYI, the movie is based on a chapter in the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ by Zaidi. Stay tuned!
