MediaTek Beats Qualcomm To Lead the Global Smartphone Chip Market With 37 Percent Share in 2021: Report

New Delhi: Mobile chip maker MediaTek is set to lead the global smartphone system-on-chip (SoC) with 37 per cent share while Qualcomm will lead the global 5G smartphone SoC market with 30 per cent share, according to a new report. MediaTek leveraging TSMC and its affordable 5G portfolio is well-positioned to almost double its market share in the 5G smartphone SoC/AP segment, according to Counterpoint Research. MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Chipset Launched in India for Flagship 5G Smartphones.

“Together, MediaTek and Qualcomm occupy nearly two-thirds of the 5G smartphone SoC market demand, but the gap between the two has narrowed. Having said that, the foundry capacity will continue to tight till early 2022, before the next wave of CAPEX realises at the leading nodes,” explained Research Analyst Parv Sharma. The leading-edge nodes (7nm, 6nm and 5n) will account for almost half of the smartphone shipment volume during 2021 while 5G AP/SoC chipset volumes will more than double annually in 2021.

“MediaTek is likely to continue its Q4 2020 momentum into 2021 and likely to capture 37 per cent unit share of all the smartphone AP/SoC shipped for the full the year. Further, MediaTek in the first half of 2021 will benefit from Qualcomm’s current supply constraints,” explained Research Director Dale Gai. “Secondly, taking key steps to improve the supply of PMICs and RFICs should alleviate the supply constraints in coming months. This will allow Qualcomm to its leadership in 5G SoC market and overall market share of 31 per cent still growing annually,” Gai said in a statement.

However, Qualcomm is set to bounce back strongly in H2 2021, firstly by securing greater capacity at TSMC to boost its 5G-centric tiered Snapdragon portfolio. According to Sharma, Qualcomm’s market share in 5G segment would have been even higher if it did not face the unfortunate supply constraints in the first half of 2021.

Google Enables Black Mode for Its Search Engine on Desktop

Washington, May 13: search engine Google has globally joined the bandwagon for enabling the dark mode feature for Google search on desktop.

The tech-savvies were looking forward to the much-awaited feature Google announced in December 2020 that it had begun testing the new dark theme for its search engine.

According to Mashable India, months after trial, the search engine giant has finally given a green flag for its release on Windows 10 and macOS platforms. However, the same has not been rolled out for all regions yet.

To check the same, Mashable India has provided few options like- a user might see a ‘Dark Theme is now available’ notification on Google search for the web or, the other way to check for the same is to click on the settings button on the Google Search home page and see if you are able to see the dark theme option under the appearance section.

The settings tab will see three options- default, light theme, and dark theme.

Google’s dark mode will be same as other apps’ dark modes. The search engine which used to be colourful, will turn out to be monochromatic after the option is selected.

Google is the latest addition to enable the dark mode for its platform after social media platforms like Whatsapp, Instagram, and Facebook.

The reason of dark mode being highly in demand for users is that it is better than the light theme in terms of eye protection. The night mode is soft to eyes than the light theme that gives stress to eyes especially for those people who have desk jobs.
