Universal appeal, on 11 June 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution declaring 21 June as a International Yoga Day. Now days, it become as a trendsetter in maintaining physical and mental health. Every activity of it is the key of improving flexibility, strength, balance and achieving harmony.
In India, it is consider to be an ancient practice organize since 5000 years ago. It is develop as a path to interconnect the mind, body and soul and heal them. As the practice became popular in the west, it became popularized as an exercise and relaxation method, with claims to help the body’s general well-being, alleviate physical injuries and chronic pain.
The International day of 2022 theme was chose by Ministry AYUSH. The 8th International Yoga Day (IDY) of will be celebrate all over the world with the theme “Yoga for Humanity”. The theme of IDY 2022 was announce by PM Narendra Modi in his “Mann Ki Baat” webinar on 30 May 2022. The main event of IDY will be in Mysore, Karnataka. PM Narender Modi also prompted Indians to take participate in the celebrations. He also said that it will bring people together through kindness and compassion during the post Covid geopolitical crisis and promote a sense of unity across the globe. The last theme of IDY event was “Yoga For Wellness.”
International Yoga Day is also known as World Yoga Day. First time it was celebrated on 21 June 2015. This initiative was take by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. By giving an impactful speech related to yoga on 27 September 2014 in the United Nations General Assembly. And for this reason, on 21 June, it was declare “International Yoga Day”. The proposal to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21 June in the United States was approve by 193 members on 11 December 2014. Sam Kutesa, President of the UN General Assembly. Announced to celebrate the International Yoga Day on June 21 and more than 170 countries supported this Day proposal.
In 1893, Swami Vivekananda addressed the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, America. In which he introduced it to the Western world. After that, many eastern gurus and yogis spread yoga throughout the world. So on a large scale, people started accepting it. Even it began to be studied in the form of a subject.
