Dell, Foxconn, Lava & Other 16 Companies Seek Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for IT Hardware: Report

New Delhi: A total of 19 companies have filed applications under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, including Dell, Rising Stars Hi-Tech (Foxconn), and Lava. The other electronics hardware manufacturing companies that have applied under category are ICT (Wistron) and Flextronics, said an official statement. Samsung Pledges USD 5 Million, Paytm To Set Up Oxygen Plants To Support India’s Battle Against -19.

Further, 14 companies have filed applications under the category Domestic Companies which include Dixon, Infopower (JV of Sahasra and MiTAC), Bhagwati (Micromax), Syrma, Orbic, Neolync, Optiemus, Netweb, VVDN, Smile Electronics, Panache Digilife, HLBS, RDP Workstations, and Coconics.

These companies are expected to expand their manufacturing operations in a significant manner and grow into national champion companies in IT hardware production, said an IT Ministry statement.

The PLI scheme for IT hardware was notified on March 3 this year. The scheme extends an incentive of 4 per cent to 2 per cent/1 per cent on net incremental sales (over base year of FY 2019-20) of goods under target segments that are manufactured in India to eligible companies, for a period of four years (FY 2021-22 to FY 2024-25). Union Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the PLI scheme for IT Hardware has been huge success in terms of the applications received from global as well as domestic companies engaged in manufacturing electronics hardware products.

“We are optimistic and looking forward to building a strong ecosystem across the value chain and integrating with the global value chains, thereby strengthening electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the country,” he said.

The target IT hardware segments under the proposed scheme include laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers (PCs) and servers. The scheme proposes production linked incentives to boost domestic manufacturing and attract large investments in the value chain of these IT hardware products. Over the next four years, the scheme is expected to lead to total production of about Rs 1.60 lakh crore. Out of the total production, IT hardware companies have proposed a production of over Rs 1.35 lakh crore, and domestic companies have proposed a production of over Rs 25,000 crore.

India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said: ” This is a testimonial to India’s capacity to become the manufacturing hub for IT hardware. The world is looking at India as a destination to manufacture and participation in the scheme by the global companies are a resounding vote of confidence to the current government’s policies.” ICEA is also delighted to see the emergence of the Indian champions a big step towards “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, he added.

Out of the total production of Rs 1.60 lakh crore in the next four years, more than 37 per cent will be contributed by exports of the order of Rs 60,000 crore, the ministry statement said. The scheme will bring additional investment in electronics manufacturing to the tune of Rs 2,350 crore and generate around 37,500 direct employment opportunities in next four years along with creation of additional indirect employment of nearly three times the direct employment.

OPPO Launches ‘Find X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition’, Priced at USD 1,090

Beijing, May 15: As the lander carrying China’s first Mars rover has down the Red Planet, Chinese smartphone maker OPPO on Saturday unveiled a special edition of Find X3 Pro, dubbed Find X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition, as a tribute. Priced at CNY6,999 (approx $1,090), the OPPO Find X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition comes in a new gray paint job, making it the fifth colour option for the flagship joining the already available blue, white, gloss black and cosmic mocha colourways.

The company said the gray is inspired by outer space and the phone’s rear panel is made of high-fog AG Glass with metallic luster to achieve the texture of the materials from outer space, reports GSMArena. Oppo Reno6 Pro, Reno6 Pro+ New Specifications Leaked on Weibo: Report.

The back cover of the Exploration Edition also has Mars 2021 and Utopia Planitia inscribed, with the latter being the name of the Tianwen-1’s landing site on the Red Planet. Additionally, the Find X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition comes with three Mars color filters that help you make the photos taken on Earth get a Mars-like look.

The OPPO Find X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition features the same specs that include a Snapdragon 888 SoC, Android 11-based ColorOS 11.2, 6.7-inch QHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate.

The Tianwen-1 probe touched down at its pre-selected landing area in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain on the northern hemisphere of Mars, at 7.18 a.m. (Beijing Time) on Saturday.

It took ground controllers more than an hour to establish the success of the pre-programmed landing. They had to wait for the rover to autonomously unfold its solar panels and antenna to send the signals after landing, and there was a time delay of more than 17 minutes due to the 320-million-km distance between Earth and Mars.

Facebook Banned From Processing WhatsApp Data by German Privacy Watchdog

Kolkata, May 15: In a heartwarming news amid the gloom brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, a 42-year-old man and his seven-month-old child were reunited with their family in Kolkata after a live streaming on Facebook showed them wandering aimlessly in the Bhowanipur area of the city. The man, who was later identified as Anirban Mukherjee, had developed some mental complications and had walked out of his house in Kankurgachi in North Kolkata on Thursday morning.

“We got the information that a person was sitting on the pavement at Ward No. 70 in Bhawanipur. He had a little child with him who had no clothes on his body. The man identified himself as Joydeep Sen, and requested the passers-by to help him. I immediately reached the spot with the police and brought the child home. The child was crying out of hunger and my wife gave him food and clothing,” said the Coordinator of Ward No 70, Ashim Basu. Facebook To Launch Clubhouse Rival ‘Live Audio Rooms’ Soon.

According to Basu, there was no clue about the details of the man and the little child. “We could understand that the man was from a well-to-do family, but he was not able to tell anything about his personal details. The details given by him were wrong and the police also didn’t have any clue. So, we started streaming live on Facebook so that the family members could get in touch with us,” Basu added.

Within an hour after Basu had circulated his contact number in the Facebook Live, he received a phone call from one of the child’s family members. It was learnt that the person who had travelled to Bhowanipore is one Anirban Mukherjee, a resident of Kankurgachi, who works in the private sector. The child is his seven-month-old son, Dwijo.

It was further learnt Mukherjee had tested Covid positive on Thursday following which he started behaving in a strange manner. The family members found that Mukherjee was missing along with the child on Friday morning, and lodged a missing person case with the Phoolbagan police station. “We immediately shifted Mukherjee to the SSKM hospital where he is undergoing treatment presently,” Basu said.

Officials at the Bhawanipur police station got in touch with the family through their counterparts in Phoolbagan and on Friday evening, the family members along with the mother of the child turned up and took custody of the minor in the presence of the police. They informed that Mukherjee might have travelled to Bhowanipore as he was well-acquainted with the area because he had done his schooling from Hartley’s High School which is in that area.

“Mukherjee had tested positive on Thursday morning and after that he started speaking in an incoherent manner. He never had any mental disturbance before. So, we got in touch with the doctor and tried to put him under proper treatment, but before that he left the house with his child. We tried a lot to find him but he was missing. We also lodged a missing complaint at the Phoolbagan police station,” said a family member of Mukherjee.

“My only intention was to return the child to the safe custody of his mother. Nowadays people are very active in social media and I was confident that showing the child along with his father in Facebook Live will surely help me communicate with his family,” Basu said.
